-  Sweet Temptation -

Was there a thunderstorm in the air? During a visit to where I grew up, a sweltering heat forced people back into their darkened homes. My mother's spirits were also in rest mode. Not so with me. I fought my way through the blazing heat on my bicycle. My destination: the ice cream parlour on the central village square. Because it was simply just the right day to paint an ice cream sundae there. I had already decided on the title 'Sweet Temptation', now all that was missing was the picture. "Make me a big, colourful one with lots of fruit that looks like something," I asked the young Italian woman at the counter.

No other guests were in the ice cream parlour except me, it was really too hot. I sat at a small table next to a shelf as a wall divider. The doors were wide open and the fans were running in rapid circles. The beautifully draped ice cream still melted in no time. “Never mind,” I thought and enjoyed the ice cream soup. A second bowl was needed. But its scoops also melted faster than I could paint them. "You really like our ice cream," the young woman said amusedly at my third order. My stomach was already rumbling suspiciously at my fourth order, how much more 'Sweet Temptation' could I take? Then suddenly, out of nowhere, a violent gust of wind whizzed from one door to the other. The large potted plant on top of the shelf was knocked off balance and landed on my ice cream bowl with a clatter and a clang. It tipped and crashed onto the watercolour box. I watched speechless as ice cream, fruit and whipped cream mixed with my vibrant watercolours. I still held the painting pad in one hand, the brush in the other. "Did any hit you?" the young woman inquired anxiously. No. "And your painting?" A few splashes, but they could be dabbed off. It was practically finished, so no problem at all. "Can I give you another one? On the house, of course!" No, no, it's fine. No more ice cream for today.

Who would have thought my 'Sweet Temptation' would be so exciting on this blisteringly hot day? But not only when thunder rumbles and glaring lightning bolts chase through black clouds: life is and remains exciting.
